MUSEON ARLATEN MUSÉE DE PROVENCE
Muséon Arlaten, an unforgettable experience in the heart of Provence.
This museum is just extraordinary! Created by Frédéric Mistral at the end of the 19th century, it contains fabulous treasures. It is a museum of society for the Provence of today. A whole cultural and scientific life irrigates the Museon Arlaten. On the vestiges of a Roman forum exedra, this XVIth century mansion in the Renaissance style, its XVIIIth century chapel have entered with beauty into the XXIst century to offer us all of Provence and the Camargue. 56 digital and multimedia installations spread throughout the museum allow visitors to discover the heritage of yesterday and today, intrinsically linked to that of tomorrow. The collections include 38,000 objects, 15,000 books, 42,000 images, 1,000 periodicals, and 60 linear meters of private archives. Reflecting the society of Provence, the collections are full of emotions and are breathtaking. Impossible to speak about a room in particular because it is impossible to make you feel the emotion that you will feel by walking through the different spaces: Costumes, daily life, customs, ex-voto, jewels... It is magic! Special mention for the "totems" on the walls, designed by Mr. Christian Lacroix, a wonder. A visit is essential to touch the soul of this region.
