Parallel aqueducts and milling of Barbegal in Fontvieille with a part of these remains still visible
The largest known concentration of mechanical power in the ancient world, the aqueduct and mills of Barbegal comprised a complex structure, consisting of two parallel aqueducts, which brought drinking water to the city of Arles from the Alpilles and fed a milling plant capable of producing up to 4.5 tons of flour per day. This complex was built at the beginning of the 2nd century and functioned at least until the end of the 3rd century. Some of these remains are still visible.
