FIGUEROLLES COVE
Calanque de Figuerolles in La Ciotat, with a beach and a rich sea bed, with multiple hiking trails.
The contrast between the colour of the turquoise water and the ochre cliffs of pudding, the sedimentary rock made up of ancient conglomerate pebbles rounded by erosion is unique. The cove is very deep, and its waters are consequently very calm for swimming. An islet called the Lion completes the panorama with the Capucin rock overlooking the bay. There is a pebble beach, a restaurant and a hotel. The sea bed is rich. Departure of multiple hiking trails.
Swimming. Calm and shallow waters, of an idyllic blue. The courageous will swim to the islet of the Lion.
Diving. From the cove you can go to several famous spots from the shore: the Debéné underwater arch, the Dôme de la Gargouille, the Tombant, the Grotte, the Lion, the Capucin fault, the trou du Diable, the Little Nemo wall.
Kayak and paddle. The waters are very calm, because it is quite deep and protected from the wind. When the sea is not too rough and it is possible to go around the Bec de l'Aigle, you can go to the calanque du Mugel via the Ile Verte and the grotte de Figuerolles (150 m to the left when leaving the calanque).
Via cordata. A classic of vertical hikes in the calanques is the via cordata of the trou du Souffleur, through dry canyons and cliffs sculpted from pudding. Through this "hole" in the rock, the sound of the wind and waves crashing on the cliff is amplified. A beginner's route suitable for groups of friends or families that lasts 3 hours.
