CHÂTEAU DES BAUX-DE-PROVENCE
Visit this major building of Les Baux, planted at the top of a gigantic rocky spur for centuries.
It is a true lighthouse planted at the top of a gigantic rocky spur that has watched over the Baux valley for centuries. From its gaunt grey stone silhouette, eaten away by time, one can imagine its past grandeur and power. The castle of Les Baux-de-Provence is indeed a major building; an emblematic place from which one dominates the plain, as far as the eye can see. Its military function is unmistakable, and when evening comes and its ghostly profile emerges against the setting sun, you can almost hear the clash of swords as they clash and respond to the war cries of the combatants. Today, the castle hosts exhibitions and, of course, numerous historical events. It would be difficult to find a more suitable place for this.
At the top, on the plateau overlooking the castle, real war machines - reproductions, of course - stand guard, waiting to be put into action. In fact, several times a year, one can attend shows in which they are used. The enemy, but above all the visitor, is waiting with bated breath for the trifles, trinkets and bastards. Other adjoining monuments are also worth a look, such as the Saracen tower, facing south, the keep, the troglodyte houses... and of course the village whose narrow streets are, in summer, visited by an uninterrupted stream of visitors. Discovering the Château des Baux is like travelling back in time.

Compter 2h de visite. Éviter de visiter le site vers 12h l'été car peu d'endroits à l'ombre. Mettez de bonnes chaussures car beaucoup de marche à faire pour faire le tour du château.
