LE SERAIL
The soap factory Le Sérail is the last traditional Marseille factory. For more than 60 years, it has been perpetuating, according to the rules of the art, the traditional production of Marseille soap. It is a member of the Union des professionnels du savon de Marseille (UPSM) and has obtained the Entreprise du patrimoine vivant award.
History. The soap factory Le Sérail was founded in 1949 by Vincent Boetto, when detergents appeared. Most soap factories are going through a period of crisis, but Le Sérail relies on the traditional method to be able to market a quality soap. And it is at the cost of multiple concessions and countless hours of work that Vincent Boetto, assisted by his wife, succeeds in making the small family business viable. Located in an old isolated farmhouse, perched on a roundabout, the soap factory is nothing like an ultra-modern factory. Here, it takes several weeks to complete the soap blocks, the only ones that deserve to be called "Marseille soaps". As part of its production, the workshop uses sheet metal cauldrons from 1949. Rolling, extruding, extruding, cutting, stamping and moulding are carried out according to the original techniques. Molding and stamping are done manually for each piece of soap and soap.
The products. Soap, traditional cubes, liquid soaps, flakes, raw bars and shower gels.
