SECOURS POPULAIRE FRANÇAIS
Secours Populaire, which fights exclusion and poverty in 70 districts of Marseille, needs no introduction.
In the Bouches-du-Rhône region, the association has over 110 outreach and solidarity centers. It is present in 70 districts of Marseille, and works to combat poverty and exclusion through a variety of means: day and night shelters, a health commission (prevention, first aid), and a team of hospital visitors whose mainactivity is to help disadvantaged people, and support them in their efforts to achieve autonomy and social reintegration. The day centers are mainly open to homeless people, asylum seekers, prison leavers and refugees. In the evenings, the mobile shelter makes rounds in the southern districts and the city center. In early 2013, a new bus (Solidar'BUS) strengthened the mobile unit, reaching out to young people living in precarious situations to introduce them to the range of assistance and activities set up by the association. Food aid survives thanks to the European Plan and supermarket collections. On the social front, we also offer a wide range of activities, including help with vacation departures, raising awareness of international solidarity among young people, a cyber space for Internet access, job searches, computer literacy, tutoring and even cultural activities (writing workshops, video projects, etc.).
