LE THÉÂTRE DES BERNARDINES
First, there is the solemn charm of the Chapel of the Bernardines. Ancient convent of the eighteenth century, converted to warehouse, barracks, ballroom, secondary school annex and finally test theater in 1987. Today, in its frame of stone columns under a magnificent dome, this scene is beautiful. Since the 2015/2016 season, the Bernardines Theater has become part of the Theaters, 4 structured sites together (with Gymnasium in Marseille, the Paume Game and Grand Theater in Aix-en-Provence). Tremplin of the young creation, the Bernardines play the ancient revisited theater, radical pieces in the air of the time when the intimate and societal crises nourish the inspiration of local or international authors. Often the public is invited to experience an individual and collective experience of temporal disorder. Performance readings insist on demanding texts, often in pure destitution, while multidisciplinary evenings (music, installations) mix genres, seek experimentation. Contemporary dance plays are also scheduled.
