The Festival Films Femmes Méditerranée is an annual film event held in Marseille. Created in 2006, it showcases women filmmakers from both shores of the Mediterranean. The festival is unique in Europe for its dual focus on women's cinema and cinema from the South. The films presented at this event are selected to offer audiences the diversity and audacity of new female directors from some thirty countries. Screenings, round-table discussions, film lessons and retrospectives also enable spectators to meet the directors and discover their approach. Since 2018, the festival has also been supporting young Mediterranean filmmakers by organizing a professional day to help them produce their film. All screenings are free for young audiences, students, the unemployed or those on minimum social benefits. The festival also aims to raise awareness among audiences far removed from cinema by offering free screenings and debates with educational materials.
