BELSUNCE
Belsunce, once a bourgeois and stuffy artery, is the popular and mixed heart of downtown.
Belsunce is, together with the neighbouring district of Noailles, the popular and mixed-race heart of the town centre. We do business there and we walk there as we travel between Tunisian pastries and Turkish tea. Formerly a bourgeois and stilted artery, the course of the same name is the main artery of the district. Nowadays dotted with cheap shops, one need only look up at the buildings to plunge back into the glory of yesteryear. In 1857, a mythical theatre opened there. The voices of Mistinguett, Montand and Chevalier still haunt the Alcázar, which has since become the municipal library with a regional vocation. It has kept the magnificent marquee, classified as a Historic Monument.
