FÊTE DE SAINT-LÉON

An atypical religious festival to pay homage to the patron saint of the town of Sperlonga, in southern Italy.
Listed in the inventory of intangible cultural heritage in France, this religious festival is quite confidential and atypical. Every year, it brings together a pious crowd of people who come to pay homage to Saint Leo, protector of the town of Sperlonga, in Italy, on the square in front of the church of Saint Laurent, a stone's throw from the Panier and the Mucem. This festival was initiated by Italian immigrants in the city of Marseille and continues today. The statue of Saint Leo was brought back to Marseille in 1922 by the immigrant workers of Sperlonga. A festival that is certainly authentic.
