THE DIAMOND HOUSE
House with a facade covered with stones in the shape of diamond points that housed annual temporary exhibitions
This former 16th-century building, whose facade is covered with diamond-shaped stones (hence the name!), used to host annual temporary exhibitions. An aesthetic curiosity of modern Provence, the building has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1925. The furniture and objets d'art date from the First and Second Empires. The house is said to have been built in 1570 by Pierre Gardiolle, a merchant of Catalan origin who made his fortune trading with the Levant. After housing large families, Italian immigrants and port workers moved in at the end of the 19th century. Today, it is mainly visible from the outside.
