BISHOPRIC'S PALACE
Historic palace, currently occupied by the police, located a few steps from the cathedral of the Major in Marseille.
Just a stone's throw from the Cathedral of the Major, this mansion is the result of numerous restructurings begun in the 17th century. It was for a long time the seat of the bishopric (as its name suggests) before becoming an ammunition depot during the French Revolution. It was in 1905 that the building became a civilian building and in 1908 that the police moved there permanently. Today, for many people in Marseille, the simple mention of the bishopric is synonymous with the police force. Many chapters of the history of the Marseilles police force took place there. A modern extension (1949) has been added to your left as you face the old building.
