DEPORTATION MEMORIAL

Discover the Marseille Deportation Memorial, a site located below Fort Saint-Jean, a witness to a dark past.
Below Fort Saint-Jean, under the footbridge that connects it to the Panier, a former blockhouse houses this memorial, reopened in 2019, whose museography has been skilfully redesigned. On three levels, portraits of deportees are presented on large panels. Whether they were Marseillais or not, these portraits are poignant and remind us of the horror of a period during which Marseille suffered a lot, notably with the destruction of the Saint-Jean district, also evoked here.
