MAISON BRIVE
Located in a small street perpendicular to the street of Rome, this house Brive is unique in its kind in Marseille. Apart from the Souvenir shop of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, where more books and tourist postcards are sold than real objects of sacred art, or that of St. Victor Abbey, the centennial institution makes reference. Even today craftsmen, working in monasteries or abbeys, continue tradition. Founded in 1870 by the sisters of Abbot Brive, the patron of the city and protector of the poor, financially assisted by a young girl from the Marseillaise bourgeoisie, La Maison Brive has remained in place, even where today we travel from the whole region to find all kinds of objects. Small statuary, paintings, icons, enamels, jewels of piety, bréviaires and images but also, more perishable, abeilles candles, brûloirs with incense, paper of Armenia… But also religious music.
