SAINT-NICOLAS-DE-MYRE CHURCH
Church inaugurated in 1821 with a new style, with a colossal and elegant facade, the first Melkite church in France.
Facing you, its colossal and elegant façade, the church of Saint-Nicolas-de-Myre is the first Melkite church in France. The Melkite rite is a Greek Catholic rite, brought to Marseille by oriental refugees in 1801. A royal decree authorized the construction of this building and the land was bought by the archbishop of Myre. The construction was mainly financed by rich Greek and Levantine trading families. Embedded between two buildings, this church inaugurated in 1821 strikes by its original style. Starting with the colonnade at the top. The interior is reminiscent of Byzantine churches, the decorations are rich and the furniture is elaborate.
