ST. VICTOR'S ABBEY
It is one of the oldest monuments in Marseille. Originally, a chapel and monastery, erected in the Ve century by Saint Jean Cassian in honor of Saint Victor martyr. Subsequently, the abbey became the residence of many bishops until the monastic buildings disappeared to make a place in 1804 at a parish church. In 1934, the church received the title of basilica. After several restorations, the monument offers today the visitors of beautiful crypts and a basilica in which masses, baptisms and weddings are celebrated, but also proposed by the Association of Friends of Saint Victor, classical concerts of quality, especially on the occasion of the Saint Victor music festival in the autumn.
