SACRAMENTAL HEART BASILICA
The construction of the Sacré-Coeur Basilica was decided in the aftermath of the First World War to replace the Church Saint-Adrien and Saint-Hermes, which became too small for a district in full expansion. Built in the 1920 s by architect Dupoux in order to commemorate the plague of 1720 and serve as a memorial of the First World War, she gave Marseille a Votif sanctuary at the Sacré-Coeur. Despite its unfinished construction, it was consecrated in 1947, giving it a more modern stamp than the Romano-Byzantine spirit, planned by the architect, as in Paris. It perpetuates the desire of the Aldermen in June.
