MORGIOU COVE
Calanque de Morgiou with appreciable infrastructures, deep and enclosed by places, ideal for nautical activities.
Located between the Sormiou and Sugiton coves, this cove is one of the only ones directly accessible by car (out of season only, except for local residents) and has appreciable infrastructures: a bar-restaurant, a small fishermen's harbor (still in activity) and authentic Marseilles cabins. It is inhabited all year round. Morgiou, like its neighbor Sormiou, is one of the most famous creeks of the national park, one of those that are most often photographed and therefore very popular with walkers and bathers. It is deep and enclosed in places, which means that it is also quite shady. Direct consequence: just like in the other creeks, the water is cool, even in summer. If you want to walk or hike, there is a path on the right leading to the Cap de Morgiou. On the left, there is the small beach and the path leading to the calanque of Sugiton. For the anecdote, the steps of the harbor were baptized "the Louis XIII staircase" when the king appeared here in 1622 to attend a fishing with the "madrague" (traditional method imported by the Phocaeans of Marseilles in the Antiquity) to capture the tuna. The history of Morgiou and its small port is closely linked to the practice of fishing. Note that on windy days, Morgiou is particularly exposed. It is therefore preferable to choose days when the Mistral wind is not blowing to discover this natural wonder.
