BASTIDE AND GARDEN OF THE MAGALONE
This bastide, in the Mazargues district, is managed by the Cité de la Musique, which offers courses and organizes concerts there
Managed by the Cité de la Musique, which offers courses and concerts, it is located in the Mazargues district, just opposite the radiant Cité Le Corbusier, offering a striking contrast between classical and contemporary architecture. The bastide of Magalone is also a public garden of the same name, dating from the 17th century and classified as a remarkable garden! As for the bastide, its classical and Baroque architecture is directly inspired by Italian and French architects. On the first floor, a 200 m² hall now with parquet flooring; in the wings, a boudoir and a library that open onto the garden with an elaborate layout (small wood, path of plane trees, rose gardens, fountains, basins, statues, meadows...). Since its construction, the bastide of Magalone has had different owners, each bringing its own touch, its own modification. For example, in the 19th century, a small circular chapel was added at the entrance to the garden, whereas today it is the Cité de la Musique de Marseille that manages the programming of concerts and has chosen to live there: residences for musicians, music teachers, choir and classical instruments classes and concerts are offered all year round!
