THE CAPELIN CAVE
One of the most beautiful semi-submerged caves of the calanques, accessible via a rough path in Marseille
The Grotte du Capelan takes its name from a species of marine fish. It's one of the most beautiful semi-submerged caves in the calanques, with midday being the best time for maximum illumination of its exceptional blue color. Located on the bec de Sormiou, it can be reached via a rugged path that leads to the Cap Redon cove. It can be explored by swimming through an underwater entrance, whose siphon is easily accessible to an average freediver (with mask). It can also be reached by diving, via an underwater passage through an arch, from the fault near the bec de Sormiou.
