MADELEINE CHURCH
This church is a landmark of Provencal Baroque architecture
Long nicknamed the cathedral by the inhabitants of the picturesque Miroir aux Oiseaux district, the Madeleine church - listed as a Monument Historique in 1947 - is a landmark of 17th-century Provencal Baroque architecture. Particularly noteworthy are the magnificently sculpted Virgin and Child and the portal, which have been listed since 1908. As you enter this majestic setting, be sure to look up at the polychrome arabesque ceilings in the Louis XIV style. The altar is also worth a look.
