DOMAINE DES MASQUES
The estate is on the Cengle plateau dominated by the sumptuous Sainte-Victoire mountain, and the location alone is exceptional. It covers 165 hectares and houses a 15-hectare vineyard. Its history goes back to the Knights Templar who founded on this plateau one of the first commanderies of the Order of Provence and undertook the drainage of the land to increase the arable land. Here grow shrubs and medicinal plants used by generations of healers, herbalists and witches - Masco in Provençal. Hence the name of the domain! It was rehabilitated in 1992 by a couple of Belgian origin - Carl and Sophie Mestdagh - who embarked on winegrowing out of passion. Managed in a sustainable agriculture, the vineyard contains different grape varieties: chardonnay and viognier for white wines, grenache and syrah for rosé wines. The reds are made from Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Marselan grapes, alone or in blends. The "Essential" vintages are made up of a majority of wines vinified in stainless steel tanks. Perfect temperature control and rigorous protection from oxidation from harvest to bottling make it possible to produce fresh, highly aromatic and goulée wines. The estate also has an olive grove to produce an oil stamped PDO olive oil from Aix-en-Provence. In constant development, the estate is developing an original line of cosmetics based on aromatic plants from the plateau, arbutus, savory, thyme, almond tree...
