LE MAS SAINT-JOSEPH * * *
Hotel with refined rooms and suites offering good value for money.
This hotel, which changed ownership last year, offers many advantages. First of all, its size, with its thirteen bedrooms and suites, which gives it a family and quiet atmosphere. Then its decoration, very refined, with its traditional furniture and its muted colours, taupe and white. Its swimming pool is finally a considerable highlight, just like the very friendly reception of Chantal, but its location and its rates also make this hotel a very good value for money for Saint-Rémy.

But the owner has a very unfortunate manner. On the surface, she appears welcoming and insists on ‘just ask if you want anything’ but the service is anything but welcoming.
There is no kettle in the room and breakfast has to be confirmed the previous evening and its offering tightly controlled. A fruit provision is provided in a little bowl - and sometimes had to be asked for. A smoothie was provided instead yesterday morning. Fine if that’s what was wanted but no choice.
We had a lovely room at the end of a balcony. Each room had its table on the balcony outside its door and none of the other 5 rooms were occupied. The morning after arrival we moved our table a few feet towards the nearest table to be out of the shade and then put a book on the other table. Mme Chantal was not happy and condescendingly explained how our table should be in front of our room, the next room had its table etc.! She moved our table back and wiped the other table clean of imaginary stains!
For the rest of our stay, neither of the 2 rooms next to us were occupied so her attitude was unnecessary and unreasonable, in my opinion.
We arrived at breakfast this morning and she informed us which table to sit at despite it not being set and the restaurant being empty! My partner asked for a boiled egg and I asked if I could have 2 please? She responded with a ‘un et un’ pretending (in our view) that she’d misunderstood.
Excuse the detail but someone else commented about ‘walking on egg-shells’ and it’s like that. But she seems oblivious to her bossy and mean-spirited demeanour even asking if we’d be back! I looked away rather than answer. Pity because the premises are lovely.
(We are now in Arles and hotel La Muette (at the same price) is wonderfully friendly with obliging staff. Such a contrast to our experience at Chez Chantal).
Chantal est aux petits soins pour ses clients je recommande vraiment cet endroit
