LE PÈLERINAGE DES GITANS
Impressive festive, cultural and religious event gathering gypsies and gypsies from all over Europe.
This impressive cultural event was born in 1343. Every 24th and 25th of May, a great number of gypsies from all over Europe used to meet at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in honour of Marie-Salomé, Marie-Jacobé and especially Sara, their patron saint, on those dates. In more recent times, this pilgrimage has become unavoidable. Nowadays, in addition to the arrival of the guardians and the Arlesians, the event is the occasion for reunions and numerous baptisms for the Roma, Manouche, Gypsy and Gipsy communities.
