VAUVENARGUES CASTLE
Castle of the archbishops of Aix which became Picasso's residence in 1958, nestled in the greenery at the foot of the Sainte-Victoire.
It is the last residence of Pablo Picasso, buried here at his death in 1973. At the foot of the Sainte-Victoire, the castle with red shutters nestled in the greenery, is listed as a Historic Monument. Over time, it has passed from hand to hand. In 1257, the castle belonged to the archbishops of Aix, in 1720 Louis XV offered it to Georges de Clapiers for services rendered during the plague and in 1958, it became the residence of Picasso, who liked to say that "Cézanne painted these mountains and now I am the owner".
