MOULIN DE LA RECENSE
Almost three centuries ago, as the last lords of Ventabren left the castle that dominates the village, construction began on the Moulin de la Récense. This immense building was designed to house several activities essential to local life: welcoming sheep and shepherds during transhumance in the large vaulted room, silkworm breeding on the first floor, bread oven, dairy, postal station, production of wine, almonds, nuts, vegetables and fodder. It was also the only mill in Provence capable of extracting olive oil from the marc already pressed for edible oil... This waste oil was called Recense oil and was used in the composition to create candles, lamp fuel, gear grease and especially Marseille soap! Hence the name of the mill. At the foot of the village of Ventabren, typical of the Aachen countryside, the building was renovated in 2005 to host weddings and seminars in a charming setting and a beautiful natural environment, in the shade of its century-old plane trees.
