VIGNOBLES MAYARD
The sales and tasting cellar is well worth a visit. The Mayard family inherited what was in the 17th century the castle of the Marquise de Senozan, a Parisian woman separated from her husband... The castle remains of beautiful proportions. There were 27 rooms and 4 hectares of French-style garden and an orangery but the château was dismembered during the Revolution, sold in the meantime to an Irish Lord in the wine trade; the Mayards acquired the property in 1868. Visiting the winery, you can admire the vaults and stone remains of the old castle. The owner and winegrower, Françoise Mayard Roumieux, will be pleased to tell you more about its history. Françoise is also the president of the Femmes Vignes Rhône, as you can imagine, passionate about her terroir. The estate covers 43 hectares under sustainable agriculture, some plots of land have been planted for more than a century. The grapes are harvested by hand, resulting in powerful and aromatic wines.
