Belfry surmounted by a campanile whose bell tower serves as a support for a cross
The public clock, bought by subscription in 1533, was erected in 1541 on an old gate in the ramparts, that of the second fortified enclosure of the 13th century. The belfry is surmounted by a campanile whose bell tower serves as a support for a cross. Under this cross, one could see an ornament in the shape of an insect. The ancients liked to say that it was a "barbarota", a weevil that used to live in the attics. Its symbolic presence at the top of the bell tower protected the cereal crops. The clock still works today, classified M.H.
