CHAPELLE DE L'ERMITAGE
Chapel, with a hermitage, bell tower and nave, offering a place of meditation and a breathtaking view of the southern Luberon.
Nestled on a hilltop, the chapel offers not only a place of meditation, but also a breathtaking view over much of the southern Luberon. Originally a small Romanesque sanctuary, it became a place of contemplation as early as 1292. In the early 17th century, a brotherhood added a bell tower, hermitage and nave. Since then, the chapel has been regularly maintained and hosted hermits until 1791, before becoming communal property after the Revolution. The chapel has been restored many times, and can be reached on foot from the village of Cucuron via a signposted 2 km walk from the Place de l'Etang. Time to admire the surrounding countryside. Bring good shoes, water and binoculars!
