THIBAUT CHAMFORT - DOMAINE DE VERQUIERE
Bernard and Geneviève Chamfort, supported today by their sons Romain and Thibault, manage an estate of some forty hectares (45 to be precise) purchased by grandfather Edmond in 1928. Passed down from father to son, Verquière is run by Bernard Chamfort, who has also been cellar master for a good thirty years. Drawn from parcels spread over Sablet, Vacqueyras and Rasteau, the wines are pleasant and well vinified. The Côtes-du-Rhône is round and fruity, the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Sablet from a stony clay-limestone terroir is powerful and generous, the rosé (de saignée) is always delicious and elegant, and the Rasteau, with its well-melted tannins, meets with universal approval. A fine choice of vintages and a warm welcome in a cellar displaying old wine-making tools.
