TUNE DE LA VARAIME (CAVE)
In local patois the tune designates a cave. To reach that of Varaime, you have to walk more than an hour by climbing 250 m of distance, which explains the good conservation of its cave engravings. It is necessary to provide half a day for the discovery of the site. Equip yourself with a flashlight and a hot sweater. Our ancestors valued Haut-Diois for the softness of its climate and the abundance of its game. The natural cavities, where the bears were to be removed, offered safer shelters than in the plain. The walls of the tune are adorned with numerous engravings of linear schematic art. Archaeological excavations have revealed that this shelter was used as a bergerie from the fourth millennium BC.
