CLIOUSCLAT POTTERY
A remarkable pottery founded in 1903, a veritable historic monument in Cliousclat, and a guardian of the crockery of yesteryear.
The factory and store are located on either side of a romantic, vintage courtyard. A historic monument, the Cliousclat pottery was founded in 1903 by Ardéchois Marius Anjaleras. Using earth extracted from a village quarry, the potters of Cliousclat reproduce the shapes of yesteryear, with typical local pillow racks, water pots, bowls and fountains glazed in bright green and straw yellow. The Cliousclat pottery pioneered the revival of pottery in France in the 1970s, inaugurating the first pottery markets. In 2017, this small business was converted into a cooperative society, enabling it to be safeguarded. In the Petit Musée, 4 workshops display and sell their creations. The creations of the Fabrique de Poteries de Cliousclat are, of course, on sale on site. Courses are also regularly scheduled. In addition, pottery markets are held every two years, reserved for ceramists working in glazed earthenware such as that produced by the Fabrique. This market is the only one of its kind in France. Following in the Fabrique's footsteps, other potters have set up shop in Cliousclat, selling their wares. A dozen of them are grouped around the Poterie du Fer rouge. In Cliousclat, a potter's tour is a must. No doubt you'll be back to add to your art or tableware collections... The pottery is currently undergoing renovations, and its store has been moved to the showroom for a few months.
