The cliff at La Motte-Chalançon is recognized as a major geological site by the International Union of Geological Sciences.
Geologists come from far and wide to see this cliff to go back in time. In July 2020, the Serre de l'Âne cliff, near the village of La Charce, in the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park, was recognized as a major geological site by the International Union of Geological Sciences. The site in the Drôme is distinguished by its sloping strata of limestone and marl, which have continuously recorded the history of our planet for 5 million years. It is also a Sensitive Natural Area with an educational interpretation trail.
