The Claps and the jump of the Drôme, a very original, unique and impressive site which marks the landscape at the edge of Luc-en-Diois.
A classified and very original site which strongly marks the landscape at the edge of Luc-en-Diois. At 2 km from the village in the direction of the Cabre pass, the site of Claps, from the patois clapas, heap of stones, dear to the Diois, is really unique, impressive and magnificent! In 1442, a piece of the Luc peak broke off and collided with the rocky spur on the opposite bank of the Drôme, breaking up into gigantic blocks that filled the torrent bed and piled up chaotically on either side of the spur, blocking the river at two points and giving rise to two lakes: the Grand Lac, 5 km long and up to 70 m deep, and the Petit Lac, only about 30 m deep. As early as 1754, a project to drain the area to clean it up was launched, but it wasn't until 1804 that the rock was finally pierced to allow the Drôme to flow through. It is the Saut de la Drôme which gushes out under the viaduct that had to be built for the road. Today, the site of Claps welcomes many climbers who launch themselves into the ascent of the equipped routes of different levels after a short and pleasant approach walk. In the summer, bathers are welcome to enjoy the coolness of the Drôme river in the remaining water hole Access to the site, which has a car park, is free. In summer, you can enjoy a refreshment bar, a snack bar and a programme of concerts, usually performed by local groups.
