Fountain surmounted by a winged genie - Hermaphrodite - whose torch symbolizes the virility of the father Hermes and the mirror Aphrodite.
It is a landmark in downtown Valence and a remarkable building that adorns the main boulevards, the work of the architect Eugène Poitoux dating from 1887. The fountain was surmounted by a winged genius - Hermaphrodite, in fact - standing on a ball and holding a torch in one hand and a mirror in the other. This statuette was destroyed by lightning in 1954. The monumental fountain was renovated in 2005 and then moved a few meters to be in the perspective of the renovated boulevards. A copy of the genius was then placed at the top of the column. Its torch symbolizes the virility of the father, Hermes, and its mirror the femininity of his mother, goddess of beauty, Aphrodite.
