JOUVET PARK
A park with a rich collection of tree species and a monumental fountain facing the Rhône, the green lung of Valence.
It is the heart of the city. The green lung of Valence with about 700 species of trees, this park spreads over seven hectares in the extension of the Champ-de-Mars, facing the Rhone, the castle of Crussol and the Vivarais mountains. The stairs surrounding its monumental fountain have been trodden by generations of walkers and its benches in the shade of the tall trees have hosted many romances. It must be said that this urban green space is over 100 years old! It bears the name of Theodore Jouvet, a wealthy retiree of Saint-Marcel-lès-Valence, who acquired this large parcel at the beginning of the last century to donate to the city. A stele is erected at the entrance to the park. In 1905, the President of the Republic, Emile Loubet, inaugurated this green setting which became the favourite place for walks by Valence's good society. Over time, the park has been enriched by developments (greenhouses, pavilions, works of art and monuments, etc.) and has been listed in the inventory of natural monuments and artistic sites since 1942. Its little train, its wooden playground and its pet shop are a delight for children. And their parents who can stroll in the rose garden or laze on the lawns. You can do everything in the Parc Jouvet: jogging, cycling, rollerblading, feeding the ducks, having a picnic, simply sitting on the grass or eating an ice cream and even walking hand in hand... like the lovers of Peynet.
