MUSEUM OF SHOEMAKING
This museum on the Place du Trophée is a fine example of the main activity of the Albigensian people
On the Place du Trophée, under the typical arcades that housed the shops of yesteryear, the Musée de la Cordonnerie is a fine testimony to the flagship activity of the people of Alby until the early 20th century. Some of the items on display relate to the work of these artisan shoemakers - there were almost 300 of them making Savoy shoes - including vintage leather shoes, tools, machines and explanations on how to make shoes to fit your feet. In days gone by, leather was Alby's main trade and its only traditional, and later industrial, craft.
