LA MAISON DES TETES
House built in 1731, the work of a mason sculptor named Chauplannaz in Bonneville.
Once you are on the main square of the Town Hall, look up at this beautiful house whose facade is decorated with... heads. Note that this building was built in 1731 on the site of an old building from the 16th century, of which a lintel bearing the date 1573 is now used as a threshold. It is the work of a mason sculptor named Chauplannaz. On two floors, each window frame, in baroque style and in a darkness that contrasts with the rest of the façade, is topped by a different head. On the first floor, the "comic" masks can be quite scary. There is the grumpy grinning man, the long-nosed dejected man, the angry man and the lion-headed man. The faces on the second floor are more pleasing to the eye, as they are four female faces wearing makeup watching over the house and the town like angels. The house with the orange facade next door served as a private hotel for the sovereign, King of Sardinia, during his visits to Faucigny. The wrought iron balcony opening onto the square lets us imagine the king attending the parades in his honour. Don't miss passing under the vault between the two houses to admire the back of the Royal House with its open galleries on both floors.
