VERTHIER THROUGHOUT HISTORY
A hamlet immortalized in the 19th century in numerous paintings, where the mills used the Eau Morte to draw their power.
This pretty hamlet is famous for having welcomed the Savoyard painter Prosper Dunant (School of Geneva) and his son-in-law, the painter Firmin Salabert (School of Ingres) who immortalized him in the 19th century in many paintings. The old 14th century bridge, an old tollbooth, still illustrates the history of Verthier and its small port at a time when mills used Dead Water to extract their driving force. The visit continues with the Notre-Dame de la Nativité chapel, the 15th century Maison Blain, the small heritage and traditional housing, including four-sided farms.
