ABBEY CHURCH OF ENTREMONT
The church is home to many treasures and mysteries, and the decoration on its façade announces its power and influence.
Seen from afar, secluded on a small promontory, the abbey church of Notre-Dame-de-Tous-les-Saints appears modest. And then the visitor discovers the decoration of its façade, which announces all the power that this church and its abbey may have had in the past. A church that harbors many treasures and mysteries, the first of which takes the form of a curious iron embedded in the wood of the entrance door... To discover the interior, which is even more magnificent, follow the guided tour led by a Savoie-Mont-Blanc heritage guide, who will take young and old back in time with infectious enthusiasm. In the early 12th century, canons settled in Entremont, establishing a priory based on the rule of Saint Augustine. The location was highly strategic, as the Borne marked the border between the territories of the Counts of Geneva and the Lords of Faucigny, and controlled access between the Arve valley and the Aravis mountains. This is why the Counts of Geneva, who were opposed to the Faucigny lords, made a major contribution to the development of the abbey, which became a seigneury in 1225. The church was revitalized at the end of the 17th century by Abbot Marc-Antoine de Granery, who restored the buildings, but it was secularized in 1772 and disappeared in 1776. Today, the conventual buildings - detached from the abbey church - are used as lodgings and house a small Museum of the Middle Ages, which recounts the life of the monks.
