MUSEUM OF MECHANICAL MUSIC
Museum of mechanical music installed in an old presbytery, and offering a visit to discover all the human ingenuity.
Long before electronic music, genius musicians and inventors sought to reproduce the sounds of traditional musical instruments using mechanical means, automata and machines. Housed in a magnificently restored former presbytery, the Musée de la Musique Mécanique in Les Gets offers more than just a must-see visit for the whole family: it's a place to share moments of joy and discovery. It's a lively place where you can discover human ingenuity, with all kinds of mechanisms (nearly 900 pieces collected over the years) reproducing "natural" sounds. It's a lively place that puts the tunes of yesterday and today into our heads. And everyone comes out singing, with a broad smile on a brightly lit face! In all, 12 spaces that take us back in time, from small music salons to popular balls, from concert hall pianos to cabaret bastringues. To keep your childlike spirit alive, we recommend a ride on one of the oldest merry-go-rounds, which has been fully restored and operates every day in season, with its Limonaire organ. In the gallery, a remarkable exhibition of automata from the collection of perfumer Roger & Gallet completes the visit. The Association de la Musique Mécanique des Gets (AMMG) organizes several events, including "Le Musée en Fête". A marvellous museum for learning, understanding, dreaming, singing, dancing and having fun... celebrating its fortieth anniversary!
