LES JARDINS DE LORNAY
Large alpine garden with over 100 species of rare mountain bamboo, up to 12 meters high.
Is there such a thing as a bamboo grove in the Alps? Yes, there is! Thanks to Denis Duperthuy, a great bamboo collector, the village of Lornay now boasts a large garden containing over 80 species of rare mountain bamboo, reaching heights of up to 12 meters. Wide open spaces and numerous animal species (the site has even been classified as a Refuge LPO by the Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux). And you can even watch the bamboos grow like crazy - up to 60 cm a day in June! You can buy them on site. In summer, artistic events bring the site to life.
