CHÂTEAU DE PUPETIÈRES
Medieval castle of the XIIIth century with local materials, furniture, art objects, coats of arms, tapestries and library.
In 1861, the Marquis de Virieu asked Viollet-le-Duc to rebuild this 13th century medieval castle that had been destroyed during the Revolution. Faithful to his principles, the architect used local materials such as pebbles, stone, brick, adobe and glazed tiles for the roof. The result is spectacular and is a true masterpiece of 19th century architecture. Inside, the architect was able to combine the furniture with art objects, coats of arms and tapestries. The library houses nearly 45,000 books.
