Museum allowing to finally discover the secret of the manufacture of sapphires, rubies and other synthetic stones...
In the heart of the landscaped park of Clos Jarrie, created around 1880 by Gabriel Luizet (free access and games for children), one discovers the Chemistry Museum in a restored former mansion, where the town hall of Jarrie is also located. Concerned with preserving the cultural and scientific heritage of the region, the Musée de la Chimie relates the history, techniques and applications of chemistry. The story begins here in 1915, when the French army was confronted with the use of poison gas by Germany and had to organize a response. The chemical industry of chlorine was established at the gates of Grenoble for various reasons (electrical network, metallurgy, communication routes). This museum plunges us into history, but also into current affairs with the domestic applications of chlorine. We will finally discover the secret of the manufacture of sapphires, rubies and other synthetic stones... Instructive visit, we even visit a laboratory, to better understand our industrial heritage. You will be able to see machines working and observe chemical reactions.
