Located south of Roybon, in La Trappe, the abbey Notre-Dame de Chambarrand is the last abbey in operation in the massif. Built from 1870, it is not known why Abbot Dom Jehan of Durat acquired in 1867 the former farmhouse of Saint John, the «Russian Castle» and his area almost entirely fallow, to establish a monastery of the Cistercian Trappist order. At the separation of Church and State, monks are expelled. (The Cistercian monastery of Chambarand is founded by monks from the abbey of Sept-Fons in the Allier. The Law of Waldeck-Rousseau will chase them in 1903. It was then in 1931 that nuns in the same Cistercian order revive the Monastery of Chambarand. The monastic life is once again experienced, punctuated by the office's hours, the deepening of the word and the manual work. The abbey revives in 1931 with a community of Cistercian people taking the name Trappistine. They turn to the manufacture of a baked cheese cheese: .
