HERITAGE MUSEUM
Museum telling the story of the abbey since its foundation in the century through the original century stained glass windows.
Heritage is a wealth that must be accessible to all. So, when you arrive at Saint-Chef, the first visit you should make before discovering this exceptional site is the Maison du Patrimoine, an essential place open to all to learn about the history of Saint-Chef. On the first floor of the House-Museum, the history of the abbey is told from its foundation in the 6th century through the original 15th century stained glass windows, the Romanesque capitals of the old cloister and a model of the abbey as it was in the 18th century. From the origin of Saint-Chef, divided almost naturally into four "worlds" (districts), to the "virtual" vision of the frescoes in the Upper Chapel of the abbey church (visible once a week for individuals), it is a real "revelation" to the public. On the second floor, the House Museum presents local traditions (Balmes Dauphinoises wine, adobe architecture, silkworm breeding, etc.) and the children of the region, headed by Frédéric Dard. This is the first public collection dedicated to the author. Workshops for individuals are organised throughout the year and games in the style of San Antonio, inspired by the vocabulary and characters of Frédéric Dard's detective novels, are organised. Workshops allow you to learn more about earthen construction, the famous pisé and temporary exhibitions are all good reasons to come back to Saint-Chef.
