NÉCROPOLE NATIONALE DU TATA SÉNÉGALAIS
Tribute to colonial warriors, reflections on memory and colonization in a cemetery inspired by African art
Founded in 1942, this cemetery honors colonial soldiers who fell for France in June 1940. Inspired by African art, it houses soldiers who died in combat or were victims of racist massacres. The site invites us to reflect on colonization, the role of Senegalese riflemen in the Second World War and the complex memories it conveys. Owned by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces and managed by the Office national des combattants, guided tours are organized for the public.
