The Brevenne aqueduct supplied Lyon with water in Roman times and passed through Aveize and Duerne.
The Brevenne aqueduct, originally 70 km long, supplied Lyon with water in Roman times and passed through Aveize (where the Brévenne has its source) and Duerne. The remains of the buried aqueduct, known in the region as the "holes (or thoues) of the Saracens", are still visible. Saracens is a deformation of the word caesarins (in reference to Caesar). A marked discovery trail of 7.1 km allows you to discover the site and to see the remains of the underground part of the aqueduct up close. The route can be downloaded from the website www.montsdulyonnaistourisme.fr.
