CONSEIL RÉGIONAL AUVERGNE - RHONE-ALPES
This is one of the great novelties of the year, the Rhône-Alpes region disappeared on the night of 31 December 2015 to leave it to a new large region called Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a new geographical entity whose territory has the following characteristics: The 10 th largest region in Europe with 7,8 million inhabitants (12% of the French population and an urban area in Lyon, which alone concentrates 29% of the regional population). Rural and mainly mountainous areas cover one third of a territory that has retained these wilderness areas. Indeed, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is Europe's largest mountain region with 80% of its territory in the mountains! The region is the region's third largest area in terms of area, and is the second to tax income per unit of consumption, making it a favoured and dynamic region. Moreover, it has higher population growth than average in France. Led by Laurent Wauquiez, the region is administered by 204 elected representatives (for 6 years, until March 2021). Its skills include transport, high schools, learning, economic development, research and innovation, culture, but also sport… A "new" that gives a new dimension to our region.
