Because very few Lyon inhabitants know the true story of this tower, a must-visit in the landscape, Futé is proud to present it like a curiosity in this guide. This Lyon Eiffel Tower, making passing Parisians laugh, was opened to public on 3rd May, 1894. Its construction was decided by a group of craftsmen supported by the city, opposite to Fourvière, to... put the Basilica in a republican shade! Indeed, since its construction, Fourvière is not the highest point in Lyon anymore and it is this republican tower that dominates the city at an altitude of 372 m. Formerly, it hosted a restaurant and a belfry from where people could enjoy the view. The tower is sold in 1953 to the ORTF, in order to not demolish it. Since then inaccessible to the public, it supports now transmitters and continue on scoffing at Fourvière.

Mini tour Eiffel
Réplique légèrement plus petite de la tour Eiffel qui se dresse à coté de Fourvière ! C'est assez étonnant dans le paysage, mais on ne peut pas la rater.

Emblème de Lyon
Construite peu après la Tour Eiffel, elle la copie en modèle plus réduit. Il y avait jadis un restaurant panoramique à son sommet. Aujourd'hui, elle sert de relais d'émetteurs et de repérage dans la ville. Ce n'est pas un lieu à visiter mais vous ne pouvez pas la manquer si vous allez voir la basilique de Fourvière.

Cette tour située tout proche de la basilique ressemble effectivement à une petite tour Eiffel, mais sans grand intérêt, si ce n'est gâcher un peu le paysage!

Juste à côté de la basilique de Fourvière se trouve une mini Tour Eiffel (réplique du dernier étage de celle de Paris?) qui fait aujourd'hui office d'antenne radio. On ne peut pas trop l'approcher mais difficile de la manquer lors de l'ascension vers Fourvière ou lorsqu'on se trouve sur l'esplanade ou encore en pleine ville.
